This month's issue
OCTOBER
"GREAT TO SEE YOU!" "Let's get together soon!" "Of course those mauve velour pants don't make you look like an armadillo!" Yes, superficiality has its place. But so often we're hung up on saying the right thing, wearing the right clothes, being in the right place at the right time that we forget something: The most important person to please is yourself.
This month, Lola is dedicated to shedding superficiality and living a more authentic life. How? Well, it could be as major as ditching an unfulfilling job for something that actually makes you happy or offloading a toxic friend. But you needn't turn your whole world upside down. Sometimes little changes can be the most gratifying. How about switching out The New Yorker for US Weekly on the T - because you just need to zone out? Or going out of the house without makeup once in awhile? I remember when I finally admitted to myself that I really hated listening to NPR in the car. I much preferred singing along to JAM'N 94.5. It was a watershed moment. Maybe my intellectual credibility has gone down a notch, but what can I say? I prefer Justin Timberlake to Terry Gross. (And I enjoy driving a lot more now!)
So, after reading this issue, I hope you're left a little bit better acquainted with the person who should be calling the shots in your life: you.
